COMMUNITY MANIFESTO


It all started with a meme that asked people to create and cast their own fake TV shows. It generated such awesome works of fiction that someone went, "hey! I really wish I could see what some LJ'ers would do if they wrote fiction for their own TV show!" Thus, was born this CHAOS.

Create Highly Awesome Original Shows (C.H.A.O.S.) is a community dedicated to the 'thon where people come together and write fiction based on their original ideas for TV shows. None of this is for profit. Contributions to the comm can be open to the public, or linked back to your (locked or filtered) journal. Your choice. This is simply a fun exercise in artistic abilities and general fannish geekery, which will hopefully help many of us in our writing.

This 'thon is only a place where original ideas for shows are explored. We are not incorporating real TV shows (existing, past or future) into the ‘thon. Check out our FAQ for more details.



RULES


1. What does "Original Works" or "Original Shows" mean? Short answer: It should be your own creative work, and nothing publicly recognizable. The one exception is characters from the Public Domain. Check out our FAQ for more details.

2. If you will be participating in this challenge, please make sure you join *and* friend this community. Please do not apply for membership until you have signed-up as a writer. Membership is moderated, and only those who are actually actively participating will be able to join. We'll be utilizing locked posts for our weekly supportive writing events!

3. What’s involved in this ‘thon?
5K minimum word count on your original show, and sign-ups end January 24th. There are two phases to this ficathon. Your "Character bibles/Cheat-sheets" must be posted to the comm by January 31st. And stories due anytime between April 1st - April 7th, 2010. More info here.

4. This comm has a no-bashing policy. This goes for characters, original shows, and fellow Livejournal users. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it. Constructive criticism is only welcomed if the author purposefully asks for it.

5. You do not need to ask for posting rights. This comm is open to any and all that wish to post about their original show. Just sign-up, and follow the rules and timeline. Beyond using this comm to generally discuss your fiction/cheerlead/complain/support each other, (feel free to start posts about these things!), we will have further weekly events to foster writing.

6. Wait a minute. This is original fiction. I am not sure I want it posted publically!
→ No problem! Again, just post to your personal journal, flocked and filtered to your heart’s desire, and then provide a link in the comm. That way, your fiction is only accessible to those you trust.

7. Wait a minute. I want my original show posted publically! So that people can read it and glee!
→ No problem! Again, the comm’s default journal setting is open to the public. Post to the comm and everybody will be able to see it!

8. If you wind up posting something long, please place it behind an lj-cut, or post in your personal journal and provide the comm with a link. Also, avoid spamming the comm with multiple posts in a row.

9. We'll be using the TV Parental Guidelines as a rating system regarding explicit sexual content, graphic violence and strong profanity in television programs. ;)

WEEKLY EVENTS


To encourage writing, the mod will host two supportive weekly events (members-locked), beginning in February. Participation in this is optional.

1.) Friday Block Writing - The designated block writing times will normally be on Fridays, 6:00 PM till 10:00 PM, in whatever timezone you're in. This will be blocks of time where everybody sits down and writes some portion of their fic, and it doesn't matter how horrible it comes out, you sit down with the group and you write because you're going to be sharing it at the end of the designated time.

2.) Monday Snippets - Post a small snippet of your fic here on a weekly basis (size depends on your preferences), get feedback, discuss any problems/issues you're having, etc...

→ Also, we'll probably have Word Count Check-ins every week or so.
